They are often worn as a declaration of wealth and power or to ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune to the wearer. They were worn as early as 3500 B.C. and reached the peak of their popularity during the Roman times.

Pearls have long been a symbol of purity, chastity, and feminine charm. This has always made them a favorite among brides. Pearls contain a certain warmth and glow that just cannot be duplicated in other gems. It is the birthstone of June, which just happens to be one of the most common months for weddings. The pearl is also the anniversary gem for the third and thirtieth wedding anniversaries. Pearls have come to symbolize a happy marriage.
